This is a beginner slot car set for ages 6 and up. It comes with every one’s hero Lightning McQueen and Francesco Bernoulli - the 2 big racing rivals in the movie. Scale is 1:43. The track length is 17.7 feet. It needs 5.71 feet by 4.85 feet when set up. It includes a 360 degree turn and is price under $100.

Carrera Go Disney Cars 2 - Secret Mission Race Set
Another starter set from Carrera. In this set you get Lightning Mc Queen’s best mate Mater and the world famous spy Finn McMissile. They get to race round a split loop the loop and hairpin turns over 20 feet of track. All in 1:43 scale. Area needed when assembled is 7.18 by 2.62 feet. Price is under $100

Carrera Go Disney Cars 2 - World Grand Prix Slot Car Race Set
The second set from Carrera to feature Lightning McQueen and Francesco Bernoulli slot cars. Bit confusing! Not number 1 because it hasn’t sold as well, but has some great features all the same. If you bought it I don’t think your kids would be disappointed. It comes with a gravity defying loop the loop, a 360 degree turn, an intersection and a fly through section. So plenty of thrills! Again it is a 1:43 scale. The track length is 24.27 feet. Area needed is 8.99 by 3.02 feet. Price is under $120

Carrera Go Disney Cars 2 – Tokyo Racing Action Slot Car Set
The final slot car set in the Carrera Go Disney Cars 2 series features Lightning McQueen and Raoul CaRoule slot cars. They race around an elongated figure 8 track with one banked hairpin turn and one 180 degree flat turn, 2 by 90 degree corners and a flyover. So, lots of action over 20.3 feet and all in just 8.99 by 3.02 feet. Scale is 1:43. Price is under $120

Carrera Evolution Disney Cars 2 World Grand Prix Slot Car Set
The Carrera Evolution is a bigger scale set with cars 1:32 scale and the track 1:24 scale. Recommended by Carrera for enthusiasts and children over the age of 8. The bigger cars are quicker and are more detailed than the 1:43 scale. The extra track size means more room for sliding and drifting. The set comes with Lightning McQueen and Francesco Bernoulli. The track is a classic figure 8 with a length of 14.8 feet. Area needed is 6.56 by 2.62 feet. Price ranges from $225 to $250.

The final slot car set from the Cars 2 movie is from Mattel.
Mattel Cars 2 London City Raceway Slot Car Racing Set
It includes Lightning McQueen and Francesco Bernoulli racing over a looped figure 8 track over a total length of 10 feet. You can recreate key scenes from the movie. It has mixed reviews on Amazon but is a popular set and costs below $40.

This is a bit of surprise to me. It is the older slot car set but is selling like hotcakes this year and as a result is in limited supply. It must be the cops and robbers theme which is an ongoing favorite with kids and adults alike. The set includes a Police Ford Crown Victoria and a 1967 Ford Mustang getaway car. It is 1:43 scale. The track is 11.8 feet and needs 4.66 feet by 2.30 feet. Price normally below $70

Life Like High Iron Rubber Burnin’ Train And Slot Car Set.
This is a great concept from Life Like. A model railway and slot car set combined, with a level intersection and overpass. All is in HO Scale. The slot car set includes everything you need to race with blue and white fast tracker slot cars. Slot car set needs 42 by 48 inches. The model railways comes with all you need to get started. The train included is a powered diesel loco with two freight cars and matching caboose. Area needed is 47 by 38 inches. Total area of combined set is 51 by 57.5 inches. Full price is $179.99 but discounted to less than $125

I guess the inclusion of all the Carrera Disney Cars2 slot cars sets didn’t help the length but I thought some people may be interested in seeing everything that was available. So that’s it- my brief but long overview of the hottest slot cars for Christmas 2011.
