To decide on the ranking we looked at the five bestselling slot cars on Amazon to begin with. However, we were not completely satisfied with the results and looked at the next 5 best selling slot cars that were selling under $100. We looked at the product specifications and features, read all the reviews on a number of shopping sites, expert reviews and slot car forums.
We discounted any reviews that complained that the cars did not stay on the track as this is an integral part of the hobby of slot car racing. It is learning the skill of trying to race as fast as you can to beat your opponent but staying on the track that adds so much to the excitement of the hobby.
In addition to reviews we looked at the length of track, features of the track, fun nature of the cars, area needed when set up to determine the ultimate ranking.
Unsurprisingly, we went for current best seller on Amazon, the Carrera Go Ferrari Challenge. Although, it has a couple of bad reviews overall the customer reviews are positive. As well as this we looked at value for money, and this is where this set won hands down. Priced at below $60 (now slightly above) it is up to $30 less than the other slot car sets that made the top 5.

The track includes a loop the loop and 360 degree turn for more racing thrills. The controller has a turbo boost button for an injection of speed at the right time such as when you are going into the gravity defying loop the loop.
It is a starter set and is recommended for anyone over the age of six.
The other sets in the top 5 had significantly less reviews but they did have some interesting features including character cars and vertical climbs, it was the price that was deciding factor in determining the number 1 position. However, any of these top 5 would make a great first slot car set, with the ability to be expanded as interest grows.
