Digital vs Analog
There are now two different types of slot cars with the recent addition of digital technology to the pastime. The traditional cars that have been around since the 1960s are now known as the analog. Digital technology allows you to race more than one car per slot and they can pass other cars by changing lanes, you can also race each other over the internet and lots more. Scale Sizes Explained
You can get different size sets with are denoted by their scale size. They go from the smallest size which is HO scale size or 1:64 to 1:43 to 1:32 to 1:24. The size 1:64 means that the cars are a 64th the size of the real thing or about the size of matchbox toy. They are very popular because you can get them at good prices and fit a lot of track in to a small area. The next size up is the 1:43 scale and is mainly aimed at children as they include a lot of fun sets that include cars based on cartoon characters, dune buggies as well as the more usual race car models. The 1:32 and 1:24 scales are larger cars and do cost a bit more, need more space but they look more realistic and they can go faster.
